FAQ

General Questions:

All of our wood products are made in the USA -- hand-crafted and manufactured at our facility in Fargo, ND.

We strongly believe in selling material that is ready to instal or build with, because of this all of our products are kiln dried to 6-10% moisture content to prevent cracking, warping, or other problems that arise from working with wet wood.

Our finishes are all water based and applied in house. Many of our finishes are multi-step processes to achieve a certain look while others are straight/single step stains.

Because most of our finishes are multi-step processes and not simple products we can not "sell them in a can".

Yes, we do keep a selection of rough cut lumber on hand. However, the majority of our products are milled and ready for use. If you’re looking for rough cut options, we recommend calling ahead to confirm current availability.

We do not typically carry teak wood in our regular inventory. Our focus is on reclaimed wood and regionally sourced hardwoods. If you’re looking for a specific wood type, feel free to contact us — we’re happy to discuss custom sourcing options when possible.

Yes! We specialize in reclaimed wood that's perfect for DIY projects like accent walls, shelving, mantels, and more. Stop by our Fargo location or browse our inventory online.

Barn wood comes from old agricultural structures, while urban lumber is salvaged from trees removed in city environments. Both are reclaimed and sustainably sourced, offering unique character for your project.

Yes, we work with professionals across the U.S. and offer wholesale pricing on larger orders. Contact us directly for quotes and availability.

We do not ship beams due to size restrictions. We can ship paneling/shiplap if it’s over 300SF.

Paneling Questions:

Paneling is installed board by board using a brad nailer and some basic carpentry tools. We offer a simple guide that covers the basics of paneling installation here.

The reclaimed material is planed to 5/8" thick and the urban hardwood material is planed to 3/4" thick.

Anywhere from 1 to 18 feet long.

Mantel Questions:

In-stock mantels usually ship within 3-7 business days.

All of our fireplace mantels come pre-drilled to accept our innovative mounting bracket system. The bracket can be purchased separately. Watch our DIY mantel installation video HERE.

This is a matter of preference but we can custom cut the length of your mantel to whatever size you request. The mantel should not be shorter than the length of the actual fireplace. It is recommended that the mantel extend at least 4 inches beyond the firebox opening and if the fireplace has a surround it typically will extend at least 3-6 inches beyond that.

It’s within the nature of reclaimed wood to have features such as cracks, splits, holes, and other character details. Avoiding these features entirely is nearly impossible and we cannot specify or avoid these features on your mantel or shelves.

Our mantel brackets will hold 200 pounds when installed into studs and our shelf brackets will hold 150 pounds when installed into studs.

Our one-of-a-kind reclaimed wood mantels are salvaged from historic grain elevators throughout North Dakota and Minnesota. These unique pieces will add character and warmth to your home.  Available in a variety of finishes, textures and sizes. They are hand sanded and ready to install.

If you do not see the size or style you are looking for, we do accept custom orders. Please email us at info@dakotatimberco.com for a quote.
